Application was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in February of 2017 and trademark protection for the American Islamic Montessori Association was granted in December of that year. More recently 501(c) (3) non-profit status was granted to the organization by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on 10 August 2018.

Why AIMA Was Established

The American Islamic Montessori Association was established in response to the imperative need for quality Islamic Education in the United States. In particular, AIMA was created to foster, promote and expand a nascent awareness among Islamic educators across the United States, of the value of engaging Montessori Education as a secular infrastructure through which to nurture Islamic values and thought. Given its broad-based acceptance, Montessori Education holds tremendous potential for influence as a change agent in the way Islam is perceived around the world. By engaging this powerful and intelligent approach to education, we have the means to impede and to effectively extinguish the proliferation of misinformation about Islam. As a result, we are able to create more opportunities for the cultivation of understanding and peace.
