AIMA® IS A MOVEMENT TO CHAMPION SUSTAINABLE PEACE IN THE WORLD THROUGH ISLAMIC MONTESSORI EDUCATION

The American Islamic Montessori Association® is a 501(c)3 non-profit, professional membership organization

THE CHALLENGE

This is a critical moment for Islam in the United States: it is a time wherein we are at risk of losing an entire generation of Muslim youth. Immersed in the commercialism of Western culture, these youth stand on a bridge between two worlds – and the trappings of Western society are seductive. Absent the benefit of an Islamic foundation early in life, our youth are ill-equipped to navigate the tides and tempests that surround them, that test them. Our youth are tested every day. There is no template for negotiating this divide and the future of our Deen hangs in the balance.

WHY MONTESSORI?

Montessori Education enjoys wide acceptance across the United States and around the world. Often regarded as a superior model for learning, it possesses a unique capacity for influence. The philosophy, values and ideals upon which Montessori education is based, are not only compatible with Islam, but in fact, exquisitely harmonious. When exercised in tandem, the resulting synthesis is an experiential environment of extraordinary depth and potency. This environment is exceptionally conducive to the cultivation of a child’s spiritual and intellectual development during the earliest and most impressionable years of life.

WHY AIMA?

Despite efforts of the most accomplished leaders within our Ummah, the world remains largely unversed relative to the virtues of Islam. Unfortunately, even the best outreach efforts are blunted by the proliferation of mistaken and erroneous information – sometimes by those who would appropriate our Deen with nefarious intent. The propagation of misinformation through the use of technology and 24-hour media occurs at an alarming rate, compounding the problem and amplifying our concerns.
