What we Do

The work of the AIMA® is to:

  • foster understanding
  • promote quality Education
  • expand peace in the world

The development of qualified teachers and quality Islamic schools is essential in order to foster understanding, to dispel ignorance and to advance an appreciation for Islamic values in the United States. We support families, teachers and schools in their efforts to engage Montessori philosophy as a secular infrastructure through which to nurture Islamic values and thought.

Current efforts of the American Islamic Montessori Association (AIMA®) include promoting Montessori Education in Islamic schools, as a secular infrastructure for the transmission of Islamic values and thought, and as a means to extinguish widespread misinformation about Islam, to foster understanding, and to cultivate peace, through Islamic Montessori Education (IME®):

  • Educational Consultation
  • Teacher Development & Support
  • Avenues for Teacher Credentialing and Certification
  • Development of standards for IME educators and schools
  • Promotion of public interest in and public awareness of IME
  • Catalyst for scientific research and scholarship, as a means to identify and promote best practices in IME
